We're not sure about the keep calm part, but it might be worth a try.

CALGARY, Alberta – As an opinion columnist, I’d like to talk about the often overlooked world of dating engineers (editor’s note: that’s right – I mentioned the words dating and engineers in the same sentence). While they may not be the typical romantic type, since they would rather be tweaking equations than tweaking the private parts of another human being, engineers bring a unique set of skills to the dating table that can make for a truly fulfilling relationship. Pro-Tip: If possible, avoid engineers all together, unless your idea of a nice evening out involves pain the likes of having your wisdom teeth pulled, and then returned to where they were, without any anesthetics.

First and foremost, engineers are problem-solvers. They have a natural inclination to find solutions to complex problems, and this same skill set can be applied to relationship issues. Truth be told, engineers most often have great solutions to things that are not problems, and is typically a problem for them. Whether it’s navigating a tricky conversation (while never making eye contact) or finding creative ways to spend time together on the cheap, engineers are always up for the challenge. Pro-Tip: Should you find yourself on a date with an engineer and you need to take a break, just ask, “Hey, is it me, or is the south wall of this restaurant not square where it meets the west wall?” You’ll have at least 15 minutes of peace as he or she tries to quantify by how much the wall is out.

They’ve nailed it with this billboard.

Moreover, engineers are excellent communicators. They understand the importance of clear and effective communication, and they are not afraid to have those tough conversations that many of us shy away from. This leads to a more open and honest relationship, where both partners feel heard and understood. Pro-Tip: If while mid-conversation with an engineer you notice him or her glitch robotically, repeat him or herself like a record that repeatedly skips back every 1.5 seconds, all you need to do feel around the lower neck area for a little button. Push it, wait 2 minutes, and things will be right back to normal after the soft reset.

But let’s not forget about the fun side of engineers. They have a great sense of humour and are not afraid to let their hair down and have a good time. (Woot! Woot!) Whether it’s a silly joke or a spontaneous dance party, engineers know how to lighten the mood and have a good time. Pro-Tip: Even though I wrote that, not even I believe it. Most engineers’ idea of fun is finding out that their VBA engine in their Microsoft Excel was just updated to the latest minor release. So if you want an engineer to have fun, your best bet is to get them drunk or higher than bird balls on five or six 200mg edibles.

In conclusion, while engineers may not be the typical romantic type, they bring a unique set of skills to the dating table that can make for a truly fulfilling relationship. From their problem-solving abilities to their creativity and sense of humour, engineers are a great catch for anyone looking for a long-lasting and meaningful relationship. So, don’t be afraid to give an engineer a chance, you might just be pleasantly surprised! Pro-Tip: Don’t believe the paragraph you just read.
