HOUSTON, Texas – A Cinco Ranch man is facing 17 charges after 3 men were trapped and forcibly confined in their suburban neighbourhood. The events took place yesterday in Brightwater Estates, a neighborhood located in the bedroom community of Missouri City mid way between Houston and Sugar Land, TX.

The Missouri City Police Department say that a man setup makeshift traps and other dangerous and possibly lethal conditions throughout the neighbourhood in an attempt to capture 3 individuals who were allegedly known to the man.

According to neighbours, the man was fed up with a few guys in the neighbourhood who all happened to be engineers. Shirley M., a neighbor who also witnessed one of the men fall prey to a trap, spoke to 2P News’ Rodecker Smith who was on the scene of the arrest.

“Yeah, I’m not sure what was up with that guy. He was very quiet and to himself, but he always complained to me about a few guys on the street who annoyed the heck out of him. He complained that one of the guys could not mind his own business, the other guy was a know-it-all who bragged all of the time about his collection of tools, and the third guy couldn’t stop talking about his old crappy project car that has never seen the light of day. Complaining is one thing, but I didn’t know that it would come to this.” – Shirley, who didn’t want to use her last name Macadoo.

One of the more dangerous traps built in his neighbour’s backyard, which fortunately was missed.

The MCPD described some of the traps as amusing and others as outright cruel and inhumane. Many of the traps used beer as the primary means of luring the engineers. One trap was fashioned out of a cardboard refrigerator box supported on one side with a broom covering a copy of the comics section of the Houston Chronicle, a collection of Monty Python DVDs, the underwear section of a Sear’s catalogue, and an HP48-GX calculator.

Officer Rick George from the MCPD spoke to 2P News at the scene,

“We received numerous tips from the public, which ultimately helped us apprehend and charge the suspect. We have learned that the subject was a bitter unemployed geologist who had it out for engineers, and that one of the men who was trapped was his former boss at Houston-based Pro-oil Resources.” – Officer Rick George, MCPD

When approached by law enforcement, the man fled the scene on a stolen John Deere ride-on lawnmower. The suspect involuntarily dismounted the vehicle after hitting a tree at 7 km/h. He was then apprehended after a short foot chase.

Dylan Russell Trudeau, 33, has been charged with:

  • 6 counts of endangering the public,
  • theft of a ride on lawn mower,
  • illegal operation of a lawn mower on public roadways,
  • impaired operation of a ride-on lawn mower (M.U.I.),
  • flight while being pursued by the police
  • common nuisance, and
  • 4 counts of trespassing.

Trudeau will appear before a justice of the peace on Saturday and is being held in custody until his next court appearance on Tuesday in a Missouri City state court.

The case has been handed over to the FBI’s Hate Crimes Unit and to the Department of Homeland Security to see if charges related to hate crimes and terrorism should also be laid.
